Advocacy Session IV: Training the Advocacy Team


VSO leaders would also get training on how to train spokespeople and provide tools for message delivery to staff, board, volunteers and other members of the organization.

Learning Objectives:

Training the trainers of advocacy team.

  1. Demonstrate and practice advocacy.
  2. Provide a training outline for implementation.

Training the messenger (how to train and how to do) including:

o   Board

o   Staff

o   Victims

o   Interested Stakeholders

o   Partners

o   Standards of practice (control the message)

  • Practice/demonstrate/apply the message to scenarios.  (Taped Role Play)
  •    Messaging results/reporting/adjusting strategy. – Talking points/tools 

Homework:  Share final strategy.   Trainers  recommend the organizations post their strategy and any working documents to the portal to share with other VSO organizations.

He holds a Masters of Public Administration from the Pennsylvania State University and a Masters of Arts in Nonfiction Writing from Johns Hopkins University. He has consulted for several agencies of Pennsylvania state government including the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime & Delinquency, the Departments of Transportation, Public Welfare, and Labor and Industry.
